IELTS
Whether you wish to go to an English University, work in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada or New Zealand you may need an I.E.L.T.S. qualification as an entry qualification.
What is I.E.L.T.S?
It stands for the International English Language Testing System and the British Council administers it.
What is involved? The test is in four parts; Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (approx 20 minutes). You have a choice of two papers - Academic or General. For University entrance you need to take the Academic paper but if you just need a work visa the General paper may suffice. You need to check this before you enrol for the examination.
There are test centres throughout the world. Check with their website to find your nearest centre.
What is the pass mark? Good question! The examination is scored from 1-9 and you are given a separate mark for each component. If you wish to go to University you will need an average of '7' across the four components and for some jobs a '6' may well be adequate. We will be happy to give you guidance on this so please ask.
How can I study for I.E.L.T.S? As a residential student here in Tavistock under the guidance of qualified tutors. You may also like to look at a cheaper alternative, Skype. Full details of course fees for residential students are on the website. If prefer to use SKYPE for lessons please e-mail us for details.
